2016 PAX East - First Place

Here is first place.  They are not the most detailed or the most polished, but they represent what PAX should be.  Two generations having fun and spending time together.

2016 PAX East - Second Place

Here is second place.  Out of all the people I've photographed at PAX, this has to be one of the most detailed I've ever come across.  If you don't know who this character is, look up Cole from Dragon Age Inquisition.  She nailed this cosplay in every way.  What's more impressive is that her costume looks home made.

2016 Pax East - Third Place

It's time for our top three!  Here is our third place selection.  Why did she make it in the top three?  For a number of reasons.  One - the costume is detailed and fits like a glove.  Two - her overall attention to detail is incredible.  Third - The eyes.  She goes to a level that others did not.

Whooping Stick

So we now know where people get their costumes.   Urban Outfitters has a secret room.  They even sell extra large whooping sticks.

Star Wars

.
I believe almost every faction of Star Wars is represented here.

More Props

There are props and then there are PROPS.  I have no idea where this guy got that book, or if he made it himself, but it makes for a near perfect look.

Couples

One fun thing you run into at PAX are the couples.  You'll see a few that match up their costumes to really go above and beyond.

Halo

There are some games that are always represented at PAX.  Typically Halo is one of them.

It's All About the Clothes

A costume doesn't have to be built from hand or expensive.  In this case it's just some normal cloths combined in the right way with a red wig.

Don't Forget the Lights

With the lighting it's hard to get the full effect of this one.  In the dark I bet it's really impressive.  That lightsaber is glowing red.

Above and Beyond

Here we have an example of what separates the the professional cosplayers from the rest.  From the top down this guy nails every detail.  There are no shortcuts to be found in this one.

It's the Small Things

The armor here most likely took a lot of time to pull off.  However, making gloves out of the same material is really hard.  To finish the look he used some motocross / mountain biking gloves.  It works and finishes off the look.

Ingenuity

Think you can't come up with an outfit?  It doesn't have to be expensive.  Look closely.  This guy is wearing a bathrobe / boxing robe, a hunting vest, a plastic helmet, and he's carrying a run of the mill American flag.  It gets the job done for a small price.  That's some good old fashion PAX ingenuity.

Sweat Machine

It gets pretty warm inside the convention center.  If you have an outfit like this, you better be wearing some heavy duty deodorant. You are going to sweat a lot.

Double Up

Now it's also acceptable to bring two big weapons instead of one massive weapon.

Whooping Stick

If your weapon can't be as big as you are, at least it can be as long as you are tall.

More Fun With Weapons

A good rule of thumb - if the weapon isn't at least half your size, you need a bigger weapon.

More Guns!

Here is someone I would not want to be behind at the airport.  That gun looks real if you are look quickly.  Sure when you look closely it's not, but it's still very detailed.

Scoby Doo!

Pax isn't just for video games.  You'll see a lot of other cosplayers too.  Here is an awesome Thelma and Shaggy!
